There is a good chance that you are a loyal fan of Creed Aventus and that you have a hard time accepting the fact that there are perfume clones already in existence. You, on the other hand, are still curious about whether or not Armaf Club de Nuit Intense Man is, in fact, that fantastic.

What I really wanted to say was that Armaf Club De Nuit Intense Man CDNIM is not only more popular than Creed’s masterpiece, but it is also quite possibly one of the most popular perfumes on earth right now. This is what I meant when I said that it was excellent.

As someone who is passionate about scent, I attempted to avoid Club de Nuit for a number of years as if it were a plague. However, as I grew older, I realized that it was impossible to ignore the masses.

In 2021, despite the fact that I was aware of this scent prior to purchasing it, my brother, who is a fan of Creed Aventus, managed to persuade me that it was much more impressive than I had anticipated.

Armaf History:

The brand Sterling Parfums was created in 1998 to provide a diverse range of perfumes aligned to market and client needs. Since its inception, Sterling Parfums has built an enviable reputation as one of the largest and leading perfume companies in the Middle East, supplying its products globally.

As for Armaf, finding online sources about the company’s history has been quite challenging, and maybethat is a sign why some perfume aficionados avoid the brand itself.

Thankfully, I have found one resource about the brand’s history, perfume cologne, but please keep in mind that the following information may or may not be 100% accurate due to the company’s veil of mystery that surrounds it:

The brand started out as a company manufacturing high-quality perfume bottles for designer perfume brands in the Middle East.
At some point, the brand decided to create perfumes for certain designer brands while gaining the needed experience to start their own perfume business.
According to the same website, the brand first focused on the South African market due to its sweet perfumes synergizing well with the African climate.
After the brand gained fame in South Africa, its popularity and experience converged into expansion in other parts of the world.

While the above-mentioned statements may lack widely available information on the web, what cannot be disproved is that the first fragrances they released and documented were Futura La Homme and Futura La Homme Intense back in 2010.

My first thought was to completely skip the introduction about Armaf Club De Nuit Intense Man CDNIM and go straight into the visual presentation about the perfume and the review itself due to the lack of almost any kind of useful information.

Given that everything this perfume brand release is a clone of other popular scents on the market, it is no wonder why they hide the perfumer’s names and often the release dates.

On the positive side, while there might be other less-known brands that don’t invest in general usage safety of the perfumes, the ingredients found in Sterling perfumes are safe to use, and I’m yet to hear from anyone who got any kind of rash or skin allergy from using their products.

Armaf Club De Nuit Intense Man CDNIM was released in 2015, and the whole collection is comprised of seven different releases that have no touching points to each other when it comes to the smell itself.

My Experience With Perfume
The Armaf Club De Nuit Intense Man CDNIM starts out with a strong and overpowering lemon scent that doesn’t remind me of household cleaning products, some may say, and it is pleasing almost from the start.

The whole combination of fruit accords at the top notes rounds up the fragrance, and it mellows down pretty quickly to an Aventus pineapple-like aroma. Other fruits are non-existent here, besides bergamot, which was used to mimic pineapple.

What struck me the most was the scent progression and how something that opens up completely different than the fragrance it is copying was how closely they get with each passing minute.

I remember having an Aventus decant back in 2015 and testing out different batch variations through the years, but I’d be hard-pressed to recommend it in the current formulation to CDNI here.

Armaf Club De Nuit Intense Man CDNIM may be composed completely of affordable aroma chemicals, but it is so good for this price that you can’t ignore it. The hype is real.

Lovers of Hermes Concentre D’Orange Verte will find striking similarities in the opening, as the citrus notes are of almost the same quality here.

Last but not least, the fresh and tart opening starts to evaporate only after a good 30 minutes or so.

Performance

The fragrance performs like a beast, and don’t get confused if you get nose-blind to it due to the high dose of ambroxan inside it. Others will smell you even 10 hours after you have sprayed it.

Hot or cold, CDNIM performs like a 500-buck fragrance. Projection and sillage leave a big trail behind you long after you have been there, so no worries there.

Dress code and occasions

I’m wearing this fragrance with jeans, polo shirts, tracksuits, and suits, and it works. The timeless aroma here would work if it were released 30 years ago, and will work anywhere in the next 30 years as well.

This highly versatile fragrance will outperform many of its more expensive warm-weather counterparts, and I would recommend it as your main summer perfume no matter which part of the world you live in.

Almost no one will know that you aren’t wearing the “real deal”.

This review has been probably the easiest one so far I have done. No other fragrance comes as an easier recommendation than CDNI when the price is factored into everything else.

Personally, I prefer Montblanc Explorer and Mancera Cedrat Boise over Club de Nuit Intense Man due to their higher-quality smell, but guess what? Neither of those will get you such head-turning compliments as this one.

If the money isn’t a problem, get the original, but in any other situation, and even as an alternative to Aventus, get this perfume and enjoy the experience.

7 Ways to Check If Your Perfume is Authentic!

In these millennial times, the beauty industry has now been known as a billion-dollar empire. Numerous brands of make-up, soaps, and even perfumes have been birthed worldwide and have emerged with each enticing claim.

Given this competitive battlefield of brands and its blinding price tag attached to it, other makers made adaptations of these products and sold it at a relatively cheaper price. Some have different business schemes– makers offer to refill your perfume bottles and assure you that it’s the same as the original, or you customize your own scent, making sure that the base ingredient is authentic elemi oil or essential oil used in perfumes to help prolong its scent. It may sound great, but if you think about it, are you really getting the quality you were guaranteed with these imitations with the price you’ve paid for?

Aside from knowing your go-to brand by name and specific scent, here are five ways to determine if your purchasing perfume is authentic.

1. Check the packaging:
In any product, you can initially determine its quality from how it’s wrapped and packed. For perfumes, the minor details count. The cellophane wrapping of authentic perfumes that is wrapped tightly around the box. If the cellophane is messy or moving around the box, it’s a sign that it can be fake. The adhesives in the packaging are also one factor. If there is a lot of tape or glue inside the perfume box, or on its exterior, the perfume is probably a fraud. Upon opening the wrapping, check the box as well. Any high-end brand and manufacturer will use high-quality paperboard when creating the box for their product. Thin packaging signals a fake.

2. Examine the labels:
Reading the brand labels in the packaging and the bottle itself isn’t enough to determine the perfume’s authenticity. Keep a keen eye and check if the print of the brand or label is even. Uneven brand name or any misspelling on the packaging may mean that it’s a fake. You should also be cautious about the fine print details; barcodes for authentic perfumes should be at the bottom of the box. The barcode also shows where and when the perfume is produced (the same perfume may be produced in different places and thus may have different barcodes). A few examples of such, perfumes made in France have barcodes that start with 30-37, in England starting with 50, and the German ones with 400-440.

Also, be mindful of the print if it’s faded or not; you might be a victim of decoding. Perfume decoding is when the information showing where the perfume is intended to be sold has been erased. This usually is shown where the batch number and where usually a sticker with the perfume’s country of origin is shown. When you are sold decoded perfume, you may be sold perfume that is more expensive than where it is intended to be distributed. The chance for such a “decoded” perfume to be a fake is close to zero as perfume decoding of a fake product doesn’t make any sense.

3. Feel the bottle:
By feeling the bottle in your hands, you can determine the quality that has been placed into the product. The bottle’s surface should be smooth, with no bubbles in the glass, the inscriptions should be precise, and as the box, there shouldn’t be any smudges on the texts and logos. The cap should also stick tightly to the bottle and it shouldn’t come off easily if turned upside down.

4. Observe the perfume:
Before spritzing the perfume, take a good look at its contents. Check if the contents appear to be clear. Authentic perfume is always clear, without sediment or unusual discoloration. Cheaper perfumes tend to have a sweeter scent compared to other perfumes for it is designed to be suited for younger people. More expensive perfumes, on the other hand, are more likely to have several levels of fragrance. Essential oils used in perfumes are divided into top notes, middle notes, and base notes. The top notes you can smell immediately and can last about half an hour, mid notes develop after half an hour and last for two to four hours, and the base note is what is left on your skin at the end of the day. Fake perfumes prosper and are much cheaper to produce because they replicate the top notes of a perfume and at times, the middle notes. To compare a real perfume with a cheaper one, see how it both smells on your skin after two hours, four hours and six hours. A cheaper perfume may smell bad or have no smell at all.

6. Pay attention to the price:
Although this isn’t always indicative of the quality of the perfume, if it’s really cheap for the “brand” it claims to be, then it’s likely to be too good to be true and it isn’t the real perfume. There may be exceptions, such as a stock clearance where a store is closing down, but on the whole, the price provides a good indication of authenticity.

6. Research your go-to perfume:
It’s still best if you will be researching what components, notes, longevity, and other important factors on your perfume. Not all of the aforementioned examples apply to all perfumes. One known expensive perfume brand for example, is a single-note fragrance, but it is not cheap. It is also possible to make a sophisticated and nonsweet fragrance that is cheap. You can always look up your preferred brand’s website or trusty blog sites that do reviews on your preferred brand. When checking the authenticity of a single note perfume, pay attention if the scent smells strange and if the scent matches up with the description listed on the manufacturer’s website.

Always be careful with what you purchase. It’s best to research first on your preferred brands, observe the minor details before you buy your go-to perfume, and buy perfumes from trusted sellers.

7. Check the perfume liquid:
It is very important to check the appearance of the liquid in the bottle and it has to be even and transparent. Can Intense Cedrat Boise De-Throne Its Older Brother?

Designer fragrances are designed to be appealing to the masses and, while all of them are unique and good in their own right, they can be affordable to buy (depending on where you look) and mostly easy to like. This is not the case with niche fragrances. The pure definition of niche is “denoting products, services, or interests that appeal to a small, specialized section of the population.”. They are fragrances that are crafted by companies who are primarily creating only fragrances as opposed to designer houses who create fragrances as just another facet of their brand.

So, what happens when you get further into your designer collection and you’re wondering if there’s something more out there. Something that smells far and beyond what any other fragrance in your collection smells like. You’re venturing off into niche territory and this is usually where Cedrat Boise comes in from Mancera.

Cedrat (meaning “the citron tree”) Boise (meaning “wooded”) by Mancera was released in 2011 and is currently around $180 full retail. Initially people would doubt this fragrance since it was so affordable; questioning whether they used quality ingredients or not. However, when you first spray on the fragrance, those doubts quickly vanished and Mancera Cedrat Boise became a staple for fragrance collectors for over a decade.

The fragrance world today is all about flankers and dare I say flankers of flankers. In 2021, Mancera jumped on the bandwagon and released it’s own flanker, Intense Cedrat Boise and enthusiasts alike immediately purchased a bottle without hesitation. They all knew that because the original was so successful and so good that an intense version should be even better. But is it?

Let’s break these two down:
The notes on these are very similar in a lot of ways but there are subtle differences between the two. The original has notes of lemon, bergamot, black currant, spicy notes, jasmine, cedar, sandalwood, patchouli, white musk, moss, vanilla and leather. The Intense version has removed the bergamot and lemon and replaced it with Sicilian citruses. The cedar has been replaced with Cambodian Oud and they have added Ambergris (animalic musk) to the Intense version in the dry down. On paper, these both have a very eclectic range of notes that one might think couldn’t possibly smell good, but they both work, and both of these fragrances smell fantastic.

Cedrat Boise (2011) has a very harsh opening but is very fresh, bright and citrusy mixed with woods and spices. When it starts to dry down that sharp opening really starts to smooth out and it settles in with all those woods, spices and musk tones. The longevity on this is a good solid 8 to 10 hours and leaves a decent scent trail behind.

Intense Cedrat Boise has an opening that is a bit more toned down than the original. The dry down is similar, but you lose most of those fruity notes that the original had and instead you’re met with woodsy and musk notes. Both the Intense and original both are better summertime fragrances and really shine with you go out into the sun. For some reason both become brighter and the scent bubble around you intensifies.

While the Intense version does have its similarities and differences, it’s close to towing the line of being too overly redundant to the average nose. For longevity, that 45% perfume extract really keeps the Cedrat Boise party going late into the night. At around 9 to 10 hours I could still smell it on my skin and the woods and musk tones were just as prominent as they were hours earlier.

So, which should you choose?

Well, I think my opinion runs in line with what Mancera says on their website; “The one to choose when you can only choose one”, and that’s the Intense Cedrat Boise. The subtle differences between the opening, mid and dry down on the Intense version is more refined over its older sibling. The minute changes in the original formula mixed with the staying-power of an intense concentration makes this one the better choice between the two. If you already own the original bottle, save the $200 and pass on this one for now. If you’re just getting that niche itch and you’re wanting to dip your toes in the water, definitely go for the Intense version to start your journey. Or if you’re a completionist like me…go for both! Either way, you can’t go wrong with either of the two.

What Makes A Perfume Great

“The art of fortunate proportions” is how Edmond Roudnitska described perfumery. According to the legendary perfumer, a good fragrance has balance and an original form, a simple idea that is far from easy to realize. Roudnitska spent his career creating fragrances that exemplify perfumery at its most artistic—Christian Dior Diorissimo, Eau Sauvage, Diorella, and Rochas Femme. His compositions have elegance and character, but one of the distinctive trademarks of Roudnitska’s style is balance.

When I speak of balance in perfumery, I mean both the aesthetics and the technique. Consider Guerlain’s Chamade, one of the most perfectly balanced fragrances. From the bright green top notes to the rose and hyacinth heart and the velvety woody notes, the perfume unfolds like a silk scroll. Similarly modulated is Dior’s Diorissimo, where the musky and spicy notes balance out the floral and green accords.

Still, balance alone is not the ultimate goal. “The fortunate proportions” in Roudnitska’s philosophy follow the artist’s vision because a well-balanced perfume can also be a dull one if it lacks originality or character. To counter the lassitude, perfumers may apply the technique of overdose, using a large proportion of a specific material and pushing the composition’s center of gravity. This is similar to George Balanchine making his dancers hover off balance in order to create tension and slow downtime. The effect of such off-center balance is as dramatic as Odile’s 32 fouettés en tournant.

A striking example of such an approach in perfumery is Balmain’s, Vent Vert. To create her spring etude, perfumer Germaine Cellier added galbanum, an intensely green, pungent essence that smells of bell peppers and bitter sap. Set against a delicate floral backdrop, the verdant, sharp accord is as jolting as a gust of wind on an April morning. (The current version of Vent Vert has been through a number of reformulations and while it is markedly different from Cellier’s original, it retains the exhilarating off-balance effect.)

Another legendary perfume with intriguing proportions is Chanel No 5. Perfumer Ernest Beaux used a cocktail of aldehydes to give radiance to a rich bouquet of ylang-ylang, rose, and jasmine. Aldehydes smell of snuffed-out candles and also of waxy orange peel, a scent that’s borderline unpleasant in its pure state. But the right amount in Beaux’s hands evoked warm skin and champagne. Beaux also used a generous dose of aldehydes to reinterpret white flowers (Chanel No 22), spices (Bois des Iles), and leather (Cuir de Russie).

Roudnitska himself didn’t hesitate to play with the balance of components in order to convey his message. For Rochas Femme, one of his most sensual compositions, he used a sweet, plummy note to recast the dry, austere chypre accord of woods and mosses as opulent and warm. Femme was created in Paris in 1943, and it was Roudnitska’s vision of beauty as much as his protest against the war.

Bill Blass Nude ~ Perfume Review

For a perfume lover, discovering a terrific scent that has flown under many people’s radar is exciting. The thrill amplifies when the perfume only costs about $10 a bottle. Now that my backup bottle is safely on its way, I’m ready to share my latest discovery: Bill Blass Nude.

I first heard of Nude years ago when I read Laren Stover’s The Bombshell Manual of Style’s chapter on Bombshell perfumes. Most of the fragrances she lists are grand old perfumes, including the numbered Chanels, Guerlain Mitsouko and L’Heure Bleue, Rochas Femme, and Lanvin My Sin. Among these heavyweights is Nude, which the manual describes as “a striking floral composition” and creating “a mental state of near undress”.

Still, Bill Blass? Wrack my brain as I might, all I could call forth were images of conservatively dressed women of a certain age with small, groomed dogs. Not really the feel I’m going for. Then, foraging in a thrift shop a few weeks ago, I found a bottle of Nude natural Cologne spray without its cap. Buying it was an inexpensive gamble. By that evening, I was in love. I’ve worn Nude to bed most nights since.

Perfumer Sophia Grojsman created Nude, and it launched in 1990 with two other Bill Blass fragrances, Basic Black and Hot. According to Jan Moran’s Fabulous Fragrances: How to Select Your Perfume Wardrobe, Nude is an aldehydic floral with top notes of aldehydes, rose, galbanum, and narcissus; heart notes of jasmine, ylang ylang, and mosses; and a base of musk, sandalwood, vetiver, and orris. Like so many lists of notes, this one barely touches on how Nude smells on skin.

Nude is sheer, quiet, and sensual in a modern way, but has the manners of a classic perfume. Nude opens with fruity, buzzing aldehydes. Rather than summoning the smell of a dry vintage fragrance, like Rochas Madame Rochas, Nude’s first burst is like opening a bottle of a demi-sec sparkling Vouvray. Nude’s aldehydes transition seamlessly to loads of tingling, fresh jasmine, bolstered by pear. The pear isn’t the sticky smell of canned pears, but the green, almost underripe smell of a pear’s skin.

Sound good? Now it starts to get even better as moss balances the pear with its fuzzy, dry, earthy aroma, flashing back to some of the great vintage perfumes. Still, Nude stays ethereally light, and the persistent, green scent of pear reminds you this is a contemporary fragrance. Jan Moran notes “a trace of violet” in Nude’s dry down, but I don’t smell it. Instead, sticking to my sheets and the cashmere of today’s sweater I smell the warm and slightly chewy scent of benzoin. Nude stays close to the body and lasts as a murmur on skin for at least five hours. It has warmth, but probably not the pulchritude to stand up to blustery weather.

Bill Blass Nude does pose a problem, though, and it’s a big one. It’s discontinued. However, lots of discounters online offer bottles for around $10. Lovers of sheer fragrances, jasmine, pear, moss, and a bargain, skip the deli for the next two days and bring a sandwich to work instead. Spend your savings on a bottle of Nude. I don’t think you’ll be sorry.
